The warning was posted on the charity’s Age UK Wirral Facebook page on Wednesday.

The charity claimed to have received reports of people “knocking on doors in Wirral” and said they were collecting donations for Age UK.
Age UK Wirral provides emergency shopping and prescription collection as well as emotional support, wellbeing and assistance to carers of people with dementia.
However, Age UK stated that they do not have an official ID card to confirm this.
The charity concluded by saying that the police had been alerted to the fake charity collectors.
“Once again we have received reports of people knocking on doors in Wirral.
“People say that they are collecting donations for Age UK Wirral, they also have lanyards which give the impression that they are volunteers, but they have no ID to confirm this.
“Merseyside police have been informed and they advise everyone to call 101 if they see or hear anything suspicious.
“These people do NOT collect for Age UK Wirral.
“Please share this information with anyone who is not using Facebook”.
