Shots and hot dogs will be accepted as payment at a Massachusetts bar that accepts Monopoly money.
From 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on June 23, a tavern in Massachusetts will collect Monopoly money in a bid to land the establishment a spot on a special Worcester edition of the iconic board game.
Ralph’s Tavern in Worcester, Massachusetts, is encouraging customers to buy hot dogs and non-alcoholic Jell-O shots with fake cash from Hasbro’s board game. Scot Bove, the tavern’s proprietor, expects that the campaign will earn the establishment a seat on the board.
The concept came from a buddy and part-time employee of Bove’s, but the owner told Boston.com, “Initially, I was a little skeptical.” I thought it was a little cheesy at first, but then it took off.”
“It appears that everyone thinks it’s a very cool idea,” Bove continued. “It’s like Worcester is buzzing right now.”
While alcohol must be purchased using legal tender in the United States, a Jell-O “shot” costs $20 in Monopoly money.
Guests can enter the raffle for $50 and receive branded glasses, caps, and T-shirts.
Top Trumps USA, located in the United Kingdom, had obtained the global license to manufacture geographically themed Monopoly games, and had already produced a Cambridge version and a Greenwich edition.
The Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Dominique Goyette-Connerty told Boston10 News that having your company in the board game would be “a matter of pride, I think.” Not just for the corporate community, but also for the residents.”
“They won’t do another Worcester edition in five years, so if you get a spot on this board, this might be a board game that families will have in their game cabinet or living room for years,” she added.
Businesses must receive votes from the community by emailing [email protected], and voting will be available until the 25th.
Bove told Boston10, “It’s been a lot of fun, and we’re having a lot of fun with it.”
The Top Trumps USA games also announced earlier this month that a special edition of Monopoly focusing on all of the local digs in Brooklyn, New York, will be made available for purchase around November of this year.
Top Trumps USA representative Benjamin Thomas told Broadway World that “Brooklyn. This is a condensed version of the information.
