IRS Issues Tax Return Reminders After 169 Million Stimulus Check Payments Are Sent

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) revealed that more than 169 million stimulus payments from the American Rescue Plan have been delivered.

Over the last two weeks, the IRS has sent over 2.3 million stimulus payments in the form of direct deposits and stimulus cheques, according to the IRS.

Since the rollout began on March 12, a total of about $395 billion has been distributed.

As these payments are delivered, the IRS is reminding those who don’t usually file a tax return to do so in 2020 to ensure they get the money they deserve.

“Although most payments are automated, the IRS continues to encourage persons who don’t ordinarily file a tax return and haven’t received Economic Impact Payments to file a 2020 tax return to obtain all of the benefits they’re entitled to under the law,” the IRS said in a statement released Wednesday.

Child tax credit, earned income tax credit, and 2020 recovery rebate credit are some of the other benefits that may be available to Americans who have not yet filed their 2020 tax returns. They may also be eligible for a payment of the child tax credit in advance for the year 2021.

Those who have not yet filed returns should do so “as soon as possible” in order to reap the benefits available to them, according to the IRS.

Washington Newsday has contacted the IRS and the Treasury Department to inquire about the remaining payments and how many may have gone unclaimed.

The newest stimulus figures were released three weeks after at least 80 Democrats expressed support for a fourth round of stimulus checks.

In a letter to Biden, six members of the House Ways and Means Committee urged him to include recurring direct payments in the American Families Plan. Checks, according to the parliamentarians, were a “lifeline” for those who suffered as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.

The pandemic has acted as a sharp reminder that in times of crisis, families and workers require clarity, according to the letter. “They have the right to know that they will be able to put food on the table and have a roof over their heads.”

Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar also sent the administration a letter that called for monthly stimulus payments of $2,000. The. This is a brief summary.
