Eight months after the Zoom Exposure Scandal, Jeffrey Toobin returns to CNN.
Jeffrey Toobin, CNN’s veteran senior legal commentator, has returned to the airwaves after an eight-month break following his exposure on a video conversation with other journalists.
Toobin sheepishly revealed on television that he was captured masturbating but thought the call had paused and his video had been turned off during a Thursday interview with Alisyn Camerota on CNN Newsroom.
“I’m sorry to say, but I wasn’t thinking very clearly or very much…. He described it as “very moronic and indefensible.”
Toobin, who was dismissed from The New Yorker a month after the incident, used his return to apologize to his family, readers, and viewers, as well as coworkers who witnessed the incident.
He remarked of his return to the network, “I’ve got a lot to rebuild, but I feel incredibly blessed and lucky that I’ll be able to try to achieve that.”
Toobin, a former Justice Department attorney, rose to popularity in the 1990s by writing about former football star O.J. Simpson’s murder trial and working as a television legal pundit. He’s worked for CNN since 2002.
When the mistake occurred, Toobin was taking part in an election simulation with staff from The New Yorker and radio station WNYC ahead of the 2020 presidential election. He had been with the publication for nearly three decades until he was sacked in November of last year.
Toobin told Camerota that he’d been attempting for “miserable months” to transform his life through counseling and public service.
“I have tried and am still trying to express my honest regret—sincerely, “he stated “It was wrong, dumb, and I’m working on becoming a better person.”
Toobin is officially back in the same capacity, a CNN representative told Washington Newsday, but the business had no additional comment.
CNN described his absence as a temporary move made at his request last October.
“Jeff Toobin has asked for some time off while he deals with a personal issue, which we have granted,” the company said in a statement at the time.
It was widely reported that Toobin appeared to believe he was taking part in a different video call when he began masturbating—something he acknowledged in Thursday’s interview.
“They were shocked and appalled,. This is a brief summary.
