Demonstrators in New York City who are part of the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement were caught shouting racist slurs and abuse at black female New York City Police Department (NYPD) officers walking down the street, according to a video shared in social media.

“NYC: BLM demonstrators began humiliating black female NYPD officers and calling them racial slurs,” according to a video posted on Twitter by Drew Hernandez, the host, investigative reporter and producer of the web show Lives Matter.

One protestor in the video shouted, “Hurry up, get on the sidewalk f*****g, get on the sidewalk with your stupid a**, stupid n***as,” according to the video.

Another demonstrator was heard saying, “Why are you going on the street?” as he approached some of the officers.

The latest incident occurs amid rising tensions in the run-up to the U.S. presidential election on Tuesday.

Patrisse Cullors, one of three BLM co-founders, told the Associated Press: “We are a very young organization with a lot of visibility in a really short time”.

It would be “wrong,” Cullors noted, “if someone were to blame us for this solely because of what is happening in this election cycle.

In recent months there have been clashes between BLM demonstrators and supporters of President Donald Trump, who earlier this year on Twitter called a Black Lives Matter slogan painted on Fifth Avenue in New York City a “symbol of hate.

“NYC is stripping $$$ from the police for ONE BILLION DOLLARS, and yet @NYCMayor will paint a large, expensive, yellow Black Lives Matter sign on Fifth Avenue and denigrate this luxury avenue. This will be the New York’s Finest, who love New York and will vividly remember… and vividly remember,” Trump said in a July tweet.

“…. Terrible BLM singing: ‘Pigs in a blanket, fry them like bacon’. Perhaps our BIG police force, neutralized and despised by a mayor who hates and disrespects them, will not allow this symbol of hatred to be placed on New York’s largest street. Spend this money instead on fighting crime,” the President added in the Tweet.

While many BLM demonstrators have formed a united front against Trump’s impeachment in the upcoming election, neither the president nor Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden have promised to cut police budgets in local communities.

Biden plans to “revitalize community oriented policing” with a $300 million investment to boost the existing Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) program, which he cited on Biden’s campaign website.

“Policing works best when officers are not sitting in their patrol cars and out on the streets to engage with and get to know members of their communities. But to do this, police departments need resources to be able to recruit a sufficient number of officers.

“As a condition for receiving the grant, the recruitment of police officers must reflect the racial diversity of the community they serve. In addition, as president, Biden will establish a panel to review what equipment is used by law enforcement agencies in our communities,” the campaign said.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice budget for fiscal 2021, the Trump administration has requested $1.51 billion to fund more than 50 programs to support state and local law enforcement.

The BLM movement, which began in 2013 after the outrage over the acquittal of George Zimmerman in connection with the shooting of Trayvon Martin, a 17-year-old black teenager in Miami, was revived that year after the murder of George Floyd.

Floyd, a 46-year-old black unarmed teenager, died in May in an arrest by Minneapolis police after Derek Chauvin, a white officer, held Floyd down with one knee to the neck for nearly eight minutes.

Floyd’s death led to the arrest of the four officers involved in the incident, including Chauvin, who faces charges of murder and manslaughter in connection with Floyd’s death. Chauvin was released from custody last month after posting bail….
