After the Capitol riots, Ted Lieu doesn’t “get why Mike Pence is even talking to Donald Trump.”

After the January 6 Capitol incident, Democratic California Representative Ted Lieu claimed he “doesn’t understand” why Republican former Vice President Mike Pence “is even talking to” Republican former President Donald Trump.

Lieu made the remark while speaking on Joy Reid’s MSNBC news debate program The Reid Out, which airs every Friday. Reid referenced Pence’s recent remarks that he and President Trump “will never see eye-to-eye” on the January 6 capital riot before interrogating Lieu.

Reid questioned Lieu, “What is it about [Trump] that’s so engrossing that he can get away with attempting to lynch Mike Pence and Mike Pence still takes the knee?” after Pence’s recent statements about Trump and the riot were followed by praise for Trump’s presidential successes.

“We are watching the Republican Party’s radicalization in real time,” Lieu remarked. “And specifically on Mike Pence, I just have to say that for most ordinary people, if one of my coworkers incited a gang of individuals to try to kill me, I would stop talking to them and try to prosecute that person.”

Lieu added, “I don’t understand why Mike Pence is even talking to the previous president.” “He should try to put this person in a prison or a mental institution.”

Lieu went on to say that he finds it “extremely worrisome” to see the Republican Party devolve into a “cult-like state” and “deteriorate” over Trump’s continuous support.

The House of Representatives impeached Trump in January for inciting the rioting. Trump has claimed frequently and without evidence that the 2020 election was stolen from him by a massive countrywide plot involving extensive voter fraud.

Trump addressed a crowd of thousands of supporters at a “Stop the Steal” rally just hours before the riots. Trump suggested in his speech that just refusing to certify the election results in Congress would make him president.

Trump made a factually false statement. However, as Reid pointed out, Trump’s fans have turned on Pence. Outside the Capitol, they erected a gallows with a noose and screamed “hang Mike Pence,” while others attacked police and ransacked the federal building in an attempt to sabotage the election’s certification.

Trump tweeted nearly an hour after the brawl started, “Mike Pence, on the other hand, did not. This is a condensed version of the information.
