On Wednesday around 1 a.m., a silver transit car with a number of people drove into the grounds of an industrial park on Skyline Drive in Burtonwood.

A security guard was “deliberately” hit by a van and left for dead by a gang that stole mopeds from a Warrington company.

The 23-year-old security guard suffered serious injuries when he tried to stop the van from going through the gates.

He was taken to Warrington Hospital with serious injuries to his hand and leg and has since been discharged.

Cheshire police said that a 23-year-old security guard was deliberately hit by the vehicle when he tried to stop the vehicle as it drove through the gates.

Once on the premises the group got out and stole two mopeds from plastic manufacturer Plastic Omnium before trying to flee the scene.

This was told to Detective Sergeant Mark Naylor of Cheshire Police: “The security guard was seriously injured when he tried to stop the van leaving the site and we are doing everything we can to identify those involved in the incident.

The van was found and recovered a few hours later in the Belle Vale area.

A 25-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and theft of a vehicle. He is currently in custody and is waiting to be questioned by officials.

“We have conducted a number of investigations, and as part of our investigation I am very interested to hear from anyone who may have seen a transit vehicle acting suspiciously in the area or who may have seen an altercation at the gates.

“The two mopeds have not yet been recovered, and I appeal to anyone who saw them unloaded after the theft to contact us.

“I would also urge anyone who has line camera footage or other information that could help the investigation to contact us.
