Ian Doyle: For Liverpool there is only one real selection problem tonight. To Diogo Jota or not to Diogo Jota?
The dilemma of Diogo Jota is the big issue for Jürgen Klopp.
Liverpool team news and predicted lineups against West Ham United in the Premier League
To be honest, the Liverpool team chooses itself. The bottom five is the one that ended up against FC Midtjylland.
So let’s assume he makes it. And that means his Iberian colleague goes to the bench.
A lot will depend on the fitness of Thiago Alcantara, with Jurgen Klopp giving the Spaniard every chance to prove that he is ready.
My team (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, R. Williams, Gomez, Robertson; Henderson, Thiago, Wijnaldum; Salah, Firmino, Mane.
Thiago can join Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum in midfield.
And the first three are, well, the first three.
Connor Dunn: I’m throwing away the rulebook and I’m going to go rogue this week with my team coach.
Klopp can go rogue with a formation change if Thiago goes for Liverpool.
As we know, Liverpool are in the middle of an injury crisis in defence and for me the best option is to go on the attack and throw caution to the wind by trying to beat West Ham recklessly.
Now Alisson starts in goal, but my back area consists of Jordan Henderson on the right, Joe Gomez in the middle and James Milner on the left.
I will therefore opt for a relatively fluid and hard working 3-5-2 formation.
On both flanks of my midfield five are Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson.
In the middle of the park are Gini Wijnaldum and Thiago Alcantara. Jurgen Klopp has refused to exclude Thiago from the game, so he starts with a series of passes that will help the Reds protect their goal.
We know that both players have an incredible engine, so they can go up and down as usual to support the defense and connect the attack, while Henderson and Milner have proven their versatility and have the know-how to step into the heart of a backline.
Leading the way are Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, who will hopefully wreak havoc.
My team (3-5-2): Alisson; Henderson, Gomez, Milner; Alexander-Arnold, Wijnaldum, Jota, Thiago, Robertson; Salah, Mane.
In the middle is the willing and formidable Diogo Jota, who will line up just in front of them in an almost 3-4-1-2 formation, but not quite as rigid.
