Transfer rumors have linked Liverpool with the versatile player after Virgil van Dijk was left behind after a knee injury to Jurgen Klopp in the back.
Hansi Flick thinks David Alaba should think twice before seeking a transfer from Bayern Munich in January.
David Alaba’s contract will soon expire, but Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick has warned him.
Alaba may not be a natural central defender, but he was at the heart of the defence during Bayern’s successful Champions League campaign in August and was praised for his performance.
The injuries of Fabinho and Joel Matip have also increased the pressure on the Reds’ defence.
But Flick has urged Alaba to sign a new contract, saying he is not concerned about the prospect of the 28-year-old’s retirement in January.
But his ability to play as a full-back and in midfield would also prove useful to a manager who wants to improve the depth of his squad in various positions.
As his contract expires at the end of the season, there is much speculation about Alaba’s future.
“I have the feeling he is the same as last season, very concentrated, loud on the pitch. He is one of the players who leads our defence. For me there is no difference between now and last season.
“Against Arminia Bielefeld, Atletico Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt, Alaba is doing a good job,” said Flick.
“I’m not worried at all at the moment.
“It’s a lot of fun to train here with a team with a good atmosphere. We play successful football, and this club is one of the best in the world.
“I still hope that he will sign with Bayern, because I think he knows what the situation is like here in Munich.
“The conditions are great for every player at the moment and I think he will think twice about changing that.
“It’s his decision – and of course we have to respect that – but I hope he will stay. He has to decide, my feeling is irrelevant”.
