According to the pharmacy chain, the LumiraDx devices, which are capable of quickly processing swab samples to provide same-day results to customers, will be introduced in selected stores in the coming weeks.
Boots will offer a “fast” coronavirus testing service that could deliver results in as little as 12 minutes.
The pharmacy already offers a 48-hour testing service.
Seb James, Managing Director of Boots UK and ROI, said the programme would be implemented to reduce the pressure on the country’s health services.
The service, which costs £120, is available as a private pre-flight test for customers who need such a test before travelling abroad, or as a solution for those who prefer to have their privacy before visiting friends and family.
Boots already operates a 48-hour testing service, currently available in 10 stores in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow, and plans to expand the program to more than 50 outlets across the country.
“We hope that by offering this testing facility in stores in local communities, Boots can help to ease the pressure on the NHS and government by providing people across the UK with additional access to testing and key assurances.
“Boots has supported the government’s Covid 19 testing programme from the outset and offering this new in-store service is the next step in our fight against the pandemic,” he said.
“As part of the UK’s High Street for over 170 years, Boots is proud to serve at the forefront of the NHS and we will continue to do our part to support the nation’s health needs in this difficult time and beyond”.
Customers who are not experiencing Covid-19 symptoms can book an in-store test via the company’s boots.com website.
