It’s the season premiere of Friday Night SmackDown, and it’s developing into a showpiece with less than two weeks to “Hell in a Cell” pay-per-view.
Roman Reigns will defend the Universal Championship against Braun Strowman tonight. Strowman has held the title since defeating Goldberg in WrestleMania, but can the “monster among men” overcome the “tribal chief” with Reigns’ return and dominance?
Speaking of Goldberg, the WWE Hall of Famer has announced in the social media that he will be at Thunderdome tonight to see what happens to Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman. Will he be the next challenger for the World Championship? Reigns originally wanted to compete against Goldberg before Roman dropped out during the pandemic for precautionary reasons.
Jey Uso, Roman’s cousin, has a rematch for the world championship in Hell in a Cell, but will the plans change?
Jeff Hardy has been called up for Monday Night RAW, but he has one last game on SmackDown when he plays a one-on-one singles match against returning Lars Sullivan. Lars put Hardy out of action last week, and Jeff is looking for revenge before he returns on Monday night.
Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods returned from injury to win last week’s SmackDown Day Team Championship from Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura before being drafted for Monday Night RAW. However, Big E – the third man of New Day – was drafted to SmackDown, ending the trio.
New Day will have a farewell game tonight when they play Sheamus, Cesaro and Shinsuke.
The Street Profits, the new champions of the SmackDown Tag team – after swapping their RAW titles with New Day on Monday – will defend them against Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode.
Daniel Bryan will return to SmackDown tonight. What will Bryan have to say and will he leave after the Sami Zayn Intercontinental Championship?
Here is everything that happened in the episode of Friday night SmackDown on October 16th.
WWE FRIDAY NIGHT SMACKDOWN RESULTS
Triple H and Stephanie McMahon are in the ring to celebrate the season premiere of Friday Night SmackDown, with the player list at the top of the ramp.
The duo will spice up some of tonight’s matches, including Roman Reigns vs. Braun Strowman, New Day vs. Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro, and the return of Daniel Bryant.
The next newcomers from the draft will be cheered on when Street Profits takes the lead in the call. Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler attack them, and they fight their way into the ring. The other members of the rankings start to fight when Lars Sullivan comes up from behind and bulldozes everyone.
Jeff Hardy appears and pushes Sullivan out of the ring.

Big E begins with the fact that the only thing stronger than the power of positivity is the WWE design.
Kofi says they thought about it for a week, and when he went into the social media, the wave of support really helped him.
Xavier Woods says Kofi and Big E didn’t have to give a wrestler who did nothing and made this the best six years of his life. Big E talks about the small towns they have traveled to and talks about life.
Kofi says that before they got together, he didn’t know if he wanted to be a wrestler anymore, and that when he joined Big E and Xavier Woods, he won brothers.
Backstage, Shinsuke, Cesaro and Sheamus are interviewed about tonight’s match. Cesaro says that they want revenge after losing their titles last week. Shinsuke says this is the farewell to the New Day forever.

Backstage Otis is asked what he intends to do with The Miz.
Before he can answer, Sami interrupts Zayn and says that he will talk because Tucker, who spoke for Otis, is now on RAW. He brings up how Mandy Rose was brought into RAW so it makes sense that Otis would lose in this lawsuit against Miz.
Angered, Otis knocks Sami Zayn to the ground.
