The first season of the Cold War was postponed after the original launch date of 10 December. Effective immediately, the upcoming Battle Pass and the new Warzone experience will debut instead on December 16. Activision announced the unfortunate news in an official blog post on Friday afternoon.
This post begins with an allusion to what players can expect from Warzone. The upcoming Season 1 update will reportedly include a new map, a new mode and the addition of 30 new weapons from the Cold War and multiplayer Black Ops campaign. There is also talk of new blueprints and a revised Gulaug experience, but it is unclear what exactly this means. On the standard multiplayer front, fans can expect four 2v2 gunfight maps and several 6v6 arenas, including a re-release of the raid map from Black Ops II. The all-new fire team experience will also get a new twist.
Regrettably, those who are looking for more zombie content are out of luck. The Season 1 update will offer new modes, challenges, and integration with the new season-leveling system, but that’s it.
Given the delay, Treyarch plans to offer fans some gifts for the inconvenience. The first is a double XP and double weapon XP event, which will run from December 12th until the start of Season 1. In addition, players who log in to Black Ops Cold War between December 8th at 13:00 EST and December 15th at 13:00 EST will receive two free bundles containing a Park Operator Skin, a Garcia Operator Skin, an SMG Blueprint, an Assault Rifle Blueprint and more. Black Ops Cold War will also be updated on December 8th with a series of fixes to improve the quality of life before season 1 begins. The final content of Season 1 will be deployed in Black Ops Cold War on December 15 and in the war zone the following day.
This delay in Season 1 of Cold War Black Ops comes shortly after a massive leak where almost all of the Battle Pass and DLC were put online for everyone to see. We avoid potential spoilers here, but those who want to know more are welcome to check our list. The raid remake mentioned above was put on display in the leak, which makes it all the more credible for those who doubted it. Unfortunately, those who want to know exactly how this new chapter feels will have to wait a little longer before they can enjoy it.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is now available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC.
