Less than a month before the launch of the PS5, Sony has unveiled its latest tidbit on its next-generation console, specifically the entertainment applications that gamers can enjoy.
Video game consoles have evolved over the last few generations into an all-round entertainment device that allows gamers not only to play their video games, but also to watch TV shows, movies and videos and listen to music.
The official PlayStation blog announced that the PS5 will ship with Netflix, Spotify and many other applications on the day of launch, giving gamers an idea of what to expect in November. Here is a list of the applications that will be coming to the PS5 for launch, with a description of each one and how they will be integrated into the Sony console.
Enjoy Apple TV+, Apple TV channels, new and popular movies, and personalized, curated recommendations on the Apple TV app. This means users can enjoy Apple originals like Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet, Ted Lasso and The Morning Show on Apple TV+, subscribe to premium channels, buy or rent movies and TV shows, and access previous purchases from Apple. The Apple TV app will also be available on PS4.

With a deeply integrated Twitch experience on PS5, you can now watch your favorite game or stream it live and chat live about the best moments with other players in the many different and dynamic communities.
Integration with PS5 allows you to transfer your epic gaming moments directly to your YouTube channel to share or sit back and watch new and trendy content from around the world.
Sony has plans for more applications in the future and lists Amazon Prime Video, MyCanal, Hulu, Peacock as entertainment applications they plan to bring to PS5.
Upon launch, there will be a dedicated media controller that gamers will be able to purchase that will easily turn on the PS5, navigate and control the various entertainment applications that will be available on the console.
With the new media controller, gamers will be able to control the volume of applications and launch some select applications – Disney+, Netflix, Spotify and YouTube – with the touch of a button.
Last week Sony showed the PS5’s user interface and revealed that entertainment applications will be separate from games. Apps will no longer be downloaded from the PS Store, but will be in the media area, where entertainment and games will be separated. Sony hopes that this separation will make it easier for players to switch between the two.
The PS5 will also be equipped with a new control center that will make controlling your music easier than ever before, allowing players to switch between channels, skip and pause your music, even while playing a game.
PlayStation 5 is scheduled for release on November 15th.
