As the Pokémon Go Trainers continue to battle for victory in the 4th season of the Go Battle League, a new trophy is available for players.
At the Halloween Cup, similar to the postponed Flying Cup, the Trainers will compete against each other with restrictions, so that some Pokémon who don’t get much love can enjoy some glamour.
Pokémon Go’s Halloween Cup limits teams to no more than 1,500CP, which is the upper limit for the Big League in each Battle League season, and only uses the following types: Poison, Bug, Ghost, Darkness and Fairy.
The Pokémon Go Halloween Cup runs from October 26th to Tuesday, November 3rd, and Trainers can compete in costume against Squirtle, Bulbasaur and Charmander.
If you want to put together your own team for the Halloween Cup, we have some suggestions for the best Pokémon you can use.
Beedrill
The Beetle and Poison-type Pokémon may not seem like a viable option in the Halloween Cup, but its variety of moves makes it a strong leader in the battles.
Fairy-Type Pokémon are only weak against steel and poison attacks, and Trainers will be up against many of them, so Beedrill is a great option that can withstand fairy-type attacks.
Use Poison Jab as a quick attack to defeat Fairy-Type Pokémon faster. As for the loaded attack, Drill Run – the exclusive action on Community Day – is a must for Trainers. The ground attack can help you defeat Fire-Type Pokémon like Alolan Marowak, Houndoom and Chandelure. It’s also great against other Poison-type Pokémon.
Trainers can use Mud Bomb as a second attack to deal more damage against Fairy-Type Pokémon, or a Beetle-Type attack to take out Dark-Type Pokémon. Either way, you can get the most out of your Beedrill.
Azumarill
Azumarill is an integral part of the big league and thanks to his penmanship, he is a great Pokémon for the Halloween trophy. It’s only weak against electric, grass, and poison-type attacks, and in this format, Trainers usually only have to worry about poison-type Pokémon.
Bubble is the best quick attack for Azumarill to recharge its attacks the fastest, and Trainers should have Play Rough to take out Dark-Type Pokémon and either Hydro Pump or Ice Beam. Ice Beam is great for fighting the rare Grass-type Pokémon, while Hydro Pump deals maximum damage to all other Pokémon except Grass and Water Pokémon.
Alolan Marowak
The Pokémon Alolan Marowak of the “Spirit and Fire” type is perhaps the most versatile option in this format.
Fire Spinning is the best option for its quick attack, as it is fast and effective against Beetle-type Pokémon. The Shadowball is great for taking out other Ghost-type Pokémon and hitting all Pokémon except the Dark Pokémon neutrally.
Bone Club is a ground-type attack that is very effective against other Alolan Marowak and Poison-type Pokémon. It is also neutral against all types of Pokémon except flies, bugs and grass.
Mandibuzz
One of the latest additions to Pokémon Go, Mandibuzz’ Dark and Flying Typing, is a great option for use in the Halloween Cup.
Its quick attack Air Slash is a great option for taking out bug types and is neutral against the other Pokémon types in the format. As for its loaded attacks, Trainers can use Aerial Ace as another option of the Flying Type that charges up very quickly. For the second Ghost-type Pokémon, you can use Foul Play to take out Ghost Pokémon.
Umbrella
Another big league staple, Umbreon, is perhaps the best wall in this format. Although it is weak for Bug and Fairy type attacks, it can take many hits, especially from those that are neutral.
Use Feint Attack as a quick attack, but its loaded attacks leave much to be desired. The Community Day-exclusive Train Last Refuge is a must as it is neutral for all Pokémon except Ghost Types. The second loaded attack should be foul play.
