Shiny Hunting is a way for Trainers to find these rare and elusive Shiny forms in Pokémon games, and The Crown Tundra DLC has introduced a new method for finding them.
While the Gen 8 games, Pokémon Sword and Shield, didn’t have much to offer the Shining Hunters, the latest expansion introduced a new and relatively simple method for finding Shining Pokémon, especially Shining Legends.
NEW SHINING HUNTING METHOD IN THE CROWN TUNDRA
The new Shining Hunting Method has to do with the Dynamax adventures in The Crown Tundra DLC.
Dynamax Adventures can be accessed early on in DLC, but it’s a great place to catch new Pokémon – including Legendaries – and sharpen Dynite Ore for special items. However, Data Miners and Pokémon Trainers have determined that this is the best chance for Shiny Hunt.
Thanks to Data Miners, the chance of finding a Shiny Pokémon with Dynamax Adventures is 1 in 300 if you don’t have the Shiny Spell. If you have the special lucky charm, the chance of finding a Shiny Hunt drops to 1 in 100.
Of course, you can get the Shining Spell by catching all 400 Pokémon from the Sword Shield Pokéex – not from the Isle of Armor or the Crown Tundra – and talking to the game developer at the Circhester Hotel.
The trick to increasing your chances even further is to catch all four Pokémon in your Dynamax adventure, including the legendary or rare Pokémon at the end. So when you get to the menu where you have to choose which of the four Pokémon you want to take, you essentially have a 1 in 25 chance that the Pokémon you choose will be a shiny Pokémon.
The menu at the end will show you each of the Pokémon, so you can check if they are shiny before making your selection.
If you keep the legendary Pokémon, but want to go hunting for the Shiny Pokémon, you can’t take it. You must take one of the other three Pokémon or none at all.
Finding Shining Pokémon in Dynamax Adventures can be a bit expensive and time consuming. Here are some tips to make your journey more cost effective and a little easier
The first method, and the most obvious, is to try to put together a team of Trainers with whom you can go on a Dynamax Adventure. AI teammates do not have the same willingness to fight as friends or strangers you recruit online.
The other tip is to catch the standard Pokémon you encounter with the standard Pokéballs. They are the cheapest item you can use, and the catch rate of the Pokémon you defeat in the Dynamax adventure is 100%, so you don’t have to use a specialized Poke Ball.
You lose the Poke Balls of all the Pokémon you didn’t keep, so it would be a waste to use your Beast Ball for something and not keep it.
The Crown Tundra DLC in Pokémon Sword and Shield is now available for Nintendo Switch.
