Huawei’s still releasing expensive flagship phones in Australia amid Google Ban

It’s the time of year when I will generally be waxing rhapsodic about the new series of Huawei Buddy. But in the last year and a half, a lot has changed. I didn’t expect the Huawei Mate 40 Pro, especially after the last few releases of stunning yet throttled phones, to even come to Australia. But it is … and it also costs 2,000 dollars.

Huawei has probably gone from having the best phone cameras on the market in Australia to, well, still having the best phone cameras on the market. But for the majority of consumers, Huawei’s undeniably beefy hardware has become largely inconsequential because of the U.S. trade ban.

A short and overly simplistic lesson in modern history from Huawei.

President Donald Trump announced a trade prohibition between Huawei and U.S. businesses in 2019. This meant that these businesses would not be able to collaborate with or service Huawei and its goods to move forward.
