Along with Calyrex, the biggest surprise in The Crown Tundra DLC for Pokémon Sword and Shield was the revelation that the Legendary Bird Trio from the Kanto region – Zapdos, Articuno and Moltres – will receive Galarian forms.
Now that the Crown Tundra is available, these three special Legendary Pokémon are also available.
Unlike catching Calyrex or some of the other legendary Pokémon you’ll find in the DLC, the three legendary birds require some patience and a lot of exploration by the trainer.
How to Catch the Galarian Legendary Bird Trio
The Galarian Legendary Bird Trio is part of their own mission in The Crown Tundra DLC.
Instructors must visit the Dyna Tree in the southernmost region of the Crown Tundra to find the Galarian Legendary Bird. Upon your arrival, the trio will have an interlude in which they will fight among themselves before they notice your presence and leave again.
Similar to the legendary beasts of the Johto region (Suicune, Entei and Raikou), the legendary birds will roam different areas of the Galar region. They will appear in the overworld so that the trainers are not forced to search the grass for a chance encounter.
Where to find the Galar Zapdos
Galarian Zapdos can be found in the wildlife area of the main region of Galar. This flying and fighting Pokémon appears in the overworld and runs away from you as soon as you get close enough.
Trainers must track down the Pokémon to have a chance of catching them. It will be difficult to hunt it, but we’ve had success running parallel to the legendary Pokémon and rushing it by bike before it reaches its maximum speed.
You can also keep chasing it without letting it rest, and it will eventually slow down enough for you to catch it.
The Gaul Zapdos has the attacks Drill Peck, Reversal, Focus Energy and the characteristic move Thunderous Kick.
Where to find Galarian Articuno
Galarian Articuno remains in the crown tundra. Trainers will see him flying above you, and if you get close enough, he will acknowledge your presence by making copies of himself.
The Trainers must find the real Articuno in order to initiate a battle with the flying and psychic Pokémon.
The Galarian Articuno comes with the attacks Hurricane, Psycho Cut, Psycho Shift and the characteristic train Freezing Glare.
Where to find Galarian Moltres
Galarian Moltres flies to the Isle of Armor. Trainers will notice the flying and dark Pokémon flying around the island, but to fight them, you will have to stand in front of them so they can see you.
The legendary Pokémon will recognize you and attack, initiating the battle.
Galarian Moltres comes with the attacks Nasty Plot, Sucker Punch, Hurricane and the Signature Attack Fiery Wrath.
The Crown Tundra DLC for Pokémon Sword and Shield is now available through the Nintendo Switch.
