The Fortnite Update 14.50 was released early Tuesday morning for Xbox, Nintendo Switch, PC and Android, but the jetpack-focused patch was unexpectedly delayed on PS4 due to unforeseen technical problems. The bizarre deployment issue was briefly discussed by the official Fortnite status Twitter account on social media.
“Due to a problem, PlayStation 4 players will receive the v14.50 update at a later date,” the tweet said. “Until that time, they can continue to play on v14.40. We will update you as soon as we have more information.”

In other words, Fortnite players on PS4 will not get the new features and bug fixes introduced in Update 14.50 at the same time as everyone else. The words of the tweet mention an arrival “at a later date”, which could mean that the patch will go live sometime today. Epic has not officially announced this plan, however, as it is possible that solving the above “problem” could take additional time.
What this means for Fortnite fans who play exclusively on PS4, the situation will be a bit similar to those who still enjoy the season 3 version of Fortnite on iOS devices. As of now, the game will continue to run on its own 14.40 servers, without the changes made this morning. Due to the differences between the versions, those on Sony’s console will not be able to compete with those on other platforms via crossplay. Finally, given the minor map adjustments and new features in today’s patch, it would not be possible for anyone to effectively lobby without the latest update.
Although Fortnite has been using updates on a variety of platforms simultaneously for quite some time, today’s mess seems to be one of the very first times that a delay affects only one platform. While certain unique flaws may occur from time to time, particularly on PC or switch, these flaws generally do not result in delays in deployment or limited mediation. For those who play Battle Royale on Sony’s console, it is certainly a shame, but we expect the patch to be released on the PS4 as soon as possible.
For those who are able to enjoy everything that Fortnite Update 14.50 has to offer, the late season download brings Tony Stark’s jet packs along with the Lachlan skin, a few weeks of XP-oriented challenges and next-gen console support for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Epic Games has promised to keep fans up to date on the development of the 14.50, so we’ll do our best to keep you posted as soon as this news arrives.
Fortnite is now available for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC and Android.
