Destiny 2 Season of the Hunt was officially released as the first season chapter of Beyond Light. Bungie announced the details in a 15 minute ViDoc that was released on Tuesday morning. For those who hoped to learn about the new exotics and the history of the upcoming expansion, there was a lot of research to do.
Starting with the plot, Season of the Hunt deeply revolves around Osiris, who has discovered new hive growths that are driving the fighters crazy. It’s up to you to save the iconic NPC, but you won’t be alone in your quest. Uldren Sov has returned from the dead with a completely pure state of mind after his focus of action in “Abandonment”. He now refers to himself as the Crow and is the main vehicle through which your own Guardian fights against light with the concept of darkness. Your main opponents will be Xivu Arath and Savathûn, who intend to use the darkness to form their own army.
This is, of course, only the background of a season in which players can explore the new location of Europe and the subclass Stasis. As for the latter, Stasis offers two adaptation modes called Aspects and Fragments. Aspects refer to your stronger attacks, while fragments are class-independent ways to fine-tune those heavy hits.
Season of the Hunt also offers a variety of new exotic weapons and armor. On the weapon front, No Time to Explain returns, but this time there is a special bonus that opens a portal that shoots extra bullets in addition to the normal fire. At the other end of the spectrum, Lament is basically a chainsaw sword with a powerful combination that cuts through barrier champions. Titan capitals can rejoice in the Ice Cloak armpiece, which fires stasis energy before covering its wearer with an overshield. The Necrotic Handle allows a single warlock to smash chains in melee combat to take out groups of enemies.
These exotics are just some of the options available during the season. A newly released roadmap also lists the following on the roster:
Mask of Bakris
The grip of salvation
Embrace of the Athyrs
The roadmap also suggests that players will enjoy a new strike, a completely new cosmodrome experience and an activity called “Hunt for Wrath”. Closer to November 10th, the launch date of Beyond Light, we will probably learn more about these features.
Destiny 2 is now available for PS4, Xbox One, PC and Stadia.
