Tiger Woods began defending his Masters title on Thursday by doing something he has never done before in 23 career appearances at the famous Augusta National Golf Club. In the opening round he went into the game without a bogey. He shot 4 under par and is now in fourth place after the first round on Thursday, which was finally abandoned.
In addition to his very first bogey-free opening round at the Masters, his first round at Augusta was the best draw of his career, and it was his first round of golf at a major tournament played without a bogey since 2008.
“Yes, I did everything well,” said Woods. “I drove well, hit my irons well and putted well. The only really bad shot I hit today was, I think, 8, I had a perfect number with a 60-degree sand wedge and hit it on the wrong shelf”.

Englishman Peter Casey leads the field after shooting a par 65 at 7 under par, including an eagle on hole number 2 that put him at 6 under. He was scheduled to tee off before bad weather delayed the tournament. When he returned to the course for the tee shot, it was as if the Augusta Chamber of Commerce was drawing the weather with perfect conditions.
“That was a very good break,” Casey said.
