Player ratings of Everton vs. Southampton as five fights in defeat.

Parried well in both halves against Romeu and Vestergaard, but could do little for the goals

Jordan Pickford 6

Everton’s player reviews of Southampton after their 2-0 defeat in the Premier League

Michael Keane 6

I had a tough old afternoon with Nathan Redmond playing so well.

Ben Godfrey 5

For Southampton’s second, but not only because of the mistakes made here, dragged out of position.

Similar to the rest of the defense around him, he was not as secure as we had expected, but he kept going.

Yerry Mina 6

He had not managed to reach his normally sky-high standards before things got worse in the afternoon when he was expelled from the country. The left-back protested, but Kevin Friend showed his straight red

Lucas Digne 5

Allan 6

Abdoulaye Doucoure 7

He worked hard to sniff out the danger, but unlike Doucoure, he fought this fight without much help.

He was Everton’s best player in the first half. Covered a lot of ground, pushed well and gave intelligence. In the second period, however, he had less than 15 minutes left, as Ancelotti was looking for a way back into the game.

He hit the crossbar with a shot from the edge of the penalty area, but his defensive shortcomings hurt him as Southampton added to the pressure. He looked frustrated. Substituted before the hour.

Gylfi Sigurdsson 5

In the first half, his trademark flashed, but his influence on the game was not nearly as great as Everton had hoped. He ended the game with his left hamstring. Disturbing.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin 5

James Rodriguez 6.
