Ahead of Sunday’s Scottish Cup semi-final against St Johnstone at Hampden Park, Marcus Fraser was delighted to sign a new two-year contract with St Mirren.
Previously, the 26-year-old full-back joined the Buddies on a one-year contract from Ross County last summer.
Said Fraser: “It’s great for me to move on. I know where I’m going to be for the next two years.
“I’ve really enjoyed this season. I’ve played a lot of games, the team has developed well and I’ve fitted in well, so I’m looking forward to the next two years.
“We’ve reached two semi-finals and obviously we’ve got a big game coming up on Sunday, but hopefully next season we can continue the consistency in the league and move further up the table.”
In 2016, Fraser won the League Cup with the Staggies and would love nothing more than to add a Scottish Cup winner’s medal to his collection.
He said, “To win a trophy, at any stage of your career, is massive.
“If you ask all footballers, it’s very important to them.
“But first things first, Sunday is the next big game and we will take it from there.
“If we get the business done on Sunday, we’ve got a big day to look forward to, but first and foremost we’ve got a big task ahead of us, but we’re looking forward to it.”
Said boss Jim Goodwin: “I’m really pleased that we’ve been able to retain Marcus for a couple more seasons.
“He has been a performer for us from day one and will no doubt be in the running for player of the year.
“It’s a step in the right direction and extending the contracts of players who deserve it is something we’ve been trying to do since the turn of the year.”
