Manchester United Begin New Manager Search After Amorim Exit

Manchester United have officially started the search for a new manager following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim, marking yet another turning point in the club’s post–Sir Alex Ferguson era. With Darren Fletcher set to take charge on an interim basis, the club is now weighing up whether to appoint a new head coach immediately or wait until the end of the season.

Sources close to the club say United’s board is split between a short-term solution and a long-term rebuild plan. The decision will shape not only the rest of this campaign, but also the club’s strategy for the next few years.

Several names are already being discussed inside Old Trafford.

Among the immediate options is Oliver Glasner, whose work at Crystal Palace and previous European success have earned him a strong reputation. His tactical system would also require minimal changes to the current setup.

Kieran McKenna, currently impressing with Ipswich Town, is another serious candidate. Having previously worked at United, he knows the club well and is highly rated for his player development skills.

Out-of-work coaches are also being considered. Gareth Southgate remains a respected figure after his England tenure, while Xavi is keen on a Premier League challenge following his spell at Barcelona. Michael Carrick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are also familiar faces who could offer short-term stability.

Former Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca, recently available, is another name on the list, although questions remain about whether his playing style suits the current squad.

If United decide to wait until the summer, even bigger names could come into play.

Thomas Tuchel could be available after the World Cup, and his trophy-laden CV makes him an attractive option. Mauricio Pochettino, currently in international management, has long been admired by United and could return to club football.

Legendary coach Carlo Ancelotti is also seen as a dream candidate, while Germany’s Julian Nagelsmann represents a younger, modern alternative. Meanwhile, Andoni Iraola continues to win praise for his work in the Premier League and is being closely monitored.

For now, the key question remains unanswered: should United act quickly to stabilize the season, or wait and make a statement appointment in the summer?

Either way, another major chapter in Manchester United’s ongoing rebuild is about to begin.
