The Blues described the suspension of three games against the left-back after his red card against Southampton on Sunday as unfair and earlier this week initiated a case of “clearly excessive punishment” at the Football Association,
Lucas Digne’s ban was reduced to just one game after a successful appeal by Everton.
Lucas Digne was sent off for Everton in the Premier League on Sunday in Southampton.
And the FA confirmed tonight that an independent regulatory commission upheld Everton’s objection to “clearly excessive punishment” and reduced the ban to just one game.
But instead of pushing for a case of wrongful dismissal, the Blues pleaded to reduce the ban from three to one game.
Carlo Ancelotti called the decision to expel Digne for standing on Kyle Walker-Peters’ Achilles “a joke” and said the club would appeal.
Digne will miss Sunday’s game against Newcastle United – with Niels Nkounkou as a substitute – but will be back for the game against Manchester United the following weekend.
