An own goal by Nicolas Tagliafico in the 35th minute gave the Reds a 1-0 win over Ajax in the opening match of Group D on Wednesday.
Jurgen Klopp played down injury fears against Sadio Mane after Liverpool opened their Champions League campaign with an impressive win.
The Senegalese striker from Liverpool, together with his striker partners Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, was called in on the hour and was caught by the camera in the dugout with ice around his right leg.
But Klopp dispelled concerns that the Senegalese might be absent from the Premier League visit of Sheffield United on Saturday.
Mane was captured by the camera in the dugout with ice around his right leg after being replaced by Diogo Jota shortly before the hour.
Liverpool were struggling with a number of injury problems, with Naby Keita taking the precaution of not being involved and Curtis Jones making a surprising full Champions League debut in midfield with Jordan Henderson on the bench.
“Sadio still has a dead leg for a few days now,” said the Reds’ boss. “He’s taking care of it in this area, that’s the only thing.
“It’s still painful, but it’s not a problem. When he’s not playing, he puts ice on it. That’s all.”
“The substitution of Curtis was tactical,” said the Liverpool manager. “The medical department pretty much told us that Hendo couldn’t start, but it was pretty clear that 45 minutes should be possible, so Hendo came.
And Klopp explained why the captain – who replaced Jones at half-time – did not start in the Johan Cruyff ArenA.
“We wanted experience in midfield, and one that had played together a bit would help.
