The 2026 College Football Playoff National Championship was set to be a defining moment in college football history, as the undefeated Indiana Hoosiers took on the Miami Hurricanes in a thrilling showdown at Hard Rock Stadium on January 19. With the game broadcast on ESPN and streaming on platforms like Fubo and ESPN Unlimited, fans from across the country were eager to witness this high-stakes contest.

Perfect Season on the Line for Indiana

Indiana entered the game with a perfect 15-0 record, aiming to secure its first-ever national championship and make history as the first major college football team to finish a season 16-0. Led by Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Fernando Mendoza, the Hoosiers had dominated their opponents throughout the season, including key victories against top-ranked teams like Oregon, Penn State, and a Big Ten Championship win over Ohio State. Mendoza’s performance had turned him into a household name and the likely No. 1 pick in the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft, making him the centerpiece of Indiana’s quest for glory.

On the opposing sideline, Miami was looking to rekindle the glory days of its football program. With five national championships in its history (1983, 1987, 1989, 1991, and 2001), the Hurricanes were eager to reclaim their place among the elite, having not won a title in over two decades. Under the guidance of Mario Cristobal, a former Miami offensive lineman who won a national title as a player, the Hurricanes had exceeded expectations by making it to the championship. Miami’s path to the title game included impressive upsets over higher-ranked teams like Texas A
