How Gini Wijnaldum honored his first Liverpool promise following his move to Paris Saint-Germain
Following the news that Gini Wijnaldum has joined Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool have released an emotional video.
It has now been confirmed that when his contract ends at the end of this month, the Dutchman will join the French side as a free agent.
Wijnaldum has signed a three-year contract with the Ligue 1 team, which finished second to Lille last season.
Wijnaldum’s five-year career at Anfield, during which he made 237 appearances and won four major titles, comes to an end with the announcement.
Wijnaldum joined Liverpool from Newcastle in the summer of 2016, and he was one of Jurgen Klopp’s first signings alongside Sadio Mane.
Liverpool has released a film that features a selection of his best and most memorable moments while wearing the red shirt.
Wijnaldum can be heard gushing about Liverpool at the opening of the video, in an interview from when he initially joined the club five years ago.
When Wijnaldum joined Liverpool in 2016, he declared, “Everything is possible.”
“Take a look at Leicester last season; they won the Premier League. They’ve set down the marker for a number of teams, and we’ll have to do the same.
“Liverpool has a long and illustrious history, but you want to add to it, make history, and be a part of it.
“I came here to win something, and I’m going to do everything I can to make that happen.”
Wijnaldum helped Liverpool win the Champions League, Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and a first Premier League trophy – the club’s first league victory in 30 years – during his stay at Anfield.
Wijnaldum leaves Merseyside after five years, honouring the promise he made during his first interview.
