Everton constellations against Southampton, as James Rodriguez demanded in the midst of Carlo Ancelotti mind games.

Phil Kirkbride: Richarlison’s suspension means that Ancelotti has to make a decision about the left wig.

Gordon has one point to prove, since Richarlison is out.

But Gordon has a point to prove, and his guest appearance against Fleetwood was once one of the most impressive off-bench performances in a long time. A player with his teeth between his teeth like Gordon can be dangerous.

Iwobi did well against Brighton and had a good game against Fleetwood in the Cup, and you could understand why Ancelotti would flop for him against a full Southampton defence.

He said Bernard was an option, but he felt more comfortable further back this season, so it seems to be a straight race between Alex Iwobi and Anthony Gordon.

Rodriguez is too influential

In midfield, and in view of what Ancelotti said about the encounter with the “compact” Southampton, it is perhaps time for Gylfi Sigurdsson to return to the early XI century.

The big question facing Everton this weekend is of course about James Rodriguez.

Adam Jones: Will he play? Will he not play?

If he is fit, he has to start. It could be argued that he hasn’t been fully fit during his entire time at the club, but he has proven too influential to leave the team.

Alex Iwobi should be the man to replace Richarlison, as he looked very good in that role at the beginning of the season, especially against Brighton. Anthony Gordon will have to be patient for now.

Apart from that there should be some changes from Carlo Ancelotti, one forced and one not forced.

In the meantime, the addition of Gylfi Sigurdsson in midfield could really help Everton to break up a compact and difficult Southampton side.

He scored an incredible goal in a game that we would have loved to forget a few years ago in St. Mary’s. But let’s hope that this time he has what it takes in a victorious encounter for the blues.

Godfrey will celebrate his debut.
