Carlo Ancelotti explains the situation of the Anthony Gordon team after the Southampton cameo and an honest conversation.

The winger came off the bench in the second half of last weekend’s defeat to Southampton and delivered an impressive cameo performance, even though the Blues suffered their first defeat of the campaign.

Carlo Ancelotti has reaffirmed that Anthony Gordon is an integral part of his plans at Everton and has the same chances to play as the others in the squad.

Everton coach Carlo Ancelotti spoke about the opportunities Anthony Gordon will have in the coming weeks after the young player jumped off the bench in last weekend’s 2-0 defeat to Southampton.

Ancelotti commented on the opportunities available to the young player, saying that the goal of every player must be to help the team during the minutes he is on the pitch, whether he starts a game or not.

However, his manager believes that the focus should not necessarily be on the start of the game, for every player in the squad.

“It is important to be involved, to play naturally. It doesn’t matter if you play from the beginning or in the second half, the goal is to help the team during the minutes of play.

The boss said this at his press conference before Newcastle United: “I think Anthony Gordon has the same opportunities as the other players in the squad to play.

“I have to nominate the top 11 and as I keep telling the players, it is not important to be in the top 11.

“If I play five minutes, I have to help the team in those five minutes. That’s what really counts, not to be in the top 11.

“I certainly won’t stop with this first 11, it never happens that I start with 11 and stop with this 11. Now there are three substitutions, I’m used to using all three.

The manager spoke again about how important these conversations can be for the youngster and praised the spirit he shows every day in training.

At the beginning of this season Gordon travelled to Ancelotti to discuss his season with the first team.

Everton’s boss added, “It’s good to be motivated. Of course, motivation is important for a young player to improve as much as possible every day.

“If he has to talk to me, he has to come – show his personality and character. That’s good for him and good for our team.

“To be concentrated every single day, to focus on training and to show a good spirit. Anthony does this….
