At the EuroLeague game between Alba Berlin and Anadolu Efes, the guests from Istanbul were vastly superior. After four and a half minutes, the lead was already in double figures.
Basketball Bundesliga club Alba Berlin also lost its third game in the Euroleague. On Tuesday evening, in front of 700 spectators in their own hall, the Berliners clearly lost to the Turkish top team Anadolu Efes Istanbul with 72:93 (35:53). For Alba it was the third defeat in the third game. Best Berlin throwers were Marcus Eriksson with 13 and captain Niels Giffey with 12 points.
Alba started the game very nervously and suffered several ball losses in attack. So the Berliners were running behind right from the start. After only four and a half minutes the gap was in double digits for the first time (3:13). The Turks punished every mistake and Alba made far too many of them, thus enabling the guests to play simple baskets again and again.
The Berliners struggled, scored better from the end of the first quarter – especially three-point throws. At the beginning of the second period, the home side came back up to nine points (20:29). But the error rate was still too high. The guests took advantage of this again and again and kept on scoring points diligently. So the gap grew again at the break.
Shortly after the change Alba was already more than twenty points behind (39:60). After that, however, the hosts’ offensive got off to a better start and at the beginning of the last quarter the German champion scored twelve points again (61:73). But Alba afforded himself too many periods of weakness. In the end it turned out to be a clear failure.
This makes Alba Berlin the tail light in the European league. Currently the Lithuanian team Žalgiris Kaunas (1st place), Fenerbahçe from Turkey (2nd place) and the Italians Olimpia Milano (3rd place) are leading the EuroLeague. Anadolu Efes occupies eighth place directly after FC Bayern.
