back to the house James: Reece is upbeat about England’s chances of winning the European Championship.
Reece James believes football could return to England this summer, claiming that England has their best chance of winning a major tournament since 1966.
The anticipation is mounting ahead of the Three Lions’ Euro 2020 group opener against Croatia on Sunday at Wembley, where they will hope to return to play the final on July 11 under the arch.
Gareth Southgate’s side have the chance to follow in the footsteps of the 1966 World Cup heroes by winning silverware on home soil this summer, which Chelsea right-back James is relishing.
“I believe this is perhaps the finest chance we’ve ever had to win a major tournament,” the 21-year-old added.
“We have a lot of fantastic players and a lot of players that have won a lot of titles and a lot of important awards.
“I believe we have a strong enough team to win this tournament, and I see no reason why we can’t.”
James comes into the event fresh off a stunning performance in Chelsea’s Champions League final victory over Premier League champions Manchester City.
He said, “I didn’t expect to win it so young.” “There have been a lot of outstanding players who haven’t gotten the opportunity to win it. I’m ecstatic and grateful to have won it so young.
“I think winning the Champions League final and coming away with a win against such a high-quality team boosts anyone’s confidence, but doing it against the Premier League champions gives you an extra lift.
“When you come here, you have to put your club rivalry aside.
“We had Man City in the final, but we’re a collective team when we come here. We put it on the shelf. We’re all on the same team here, so we have to work together.”
Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell, both of Chelsea, have joined James in the England squad following outstanding displays in Porto.
After playing key parts under predecessor Frank Lampard, the trio has had to prove themselves to Blues manager Thomas Tuchel.
“It’s there. (This is a brief piece.)
