The French Open has been historically terrible for the home country in the major draws, with no French players making it past the third round. Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut have advanced to the men’s doubles final, while the boys’ singles semi-finalists are all French.

Salisbury will not be wearing the Whites blues.

Salisbury’s unexpected victory came just a month after his football club, Fulham, was relegated from the Premier League. So, did one make the other’s agony go away? “I’m a bit of a fair-weather fan,” he admitted sheepishly, “so when they’re doing well, I’m up for it, but when they’re not, I brush it off pretty easily.”

Albert Hall makes a comeback.

The tennis calendar is gradually returning to normal, with previous greats returning to the Royal Albert Hall for Champions Tennis in November. Players like Goran Ivanisevic, Greg Rusedski, and Tomas Berdych have already signed up, and tickets are already on sale.

The men’s semi-finals are the next chapter in the great tennis tale that is Novak Djokovic’s rivalry with Rafael Nadal.

The pair will clash for a 58th time, while the other semi-final pits two leaders of the younger generation against each other in Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev.

Krejcikova will compete in the women’s doubles final with her countrywoman Katerina Siniakova. In the final four, the duo will face Pole Magda Linette and American Bernarda Pera.
