A bear had made a “violent attempt” to enter Canada at the US border, according to the authorities. Canadian border officials released pictures of the encounter and said the bear had been arrested because he had “no travel documents” to enter the country.
“A traveler was seeking entry for essential reasons but had no travel documents,” the Canada Border Services Agency told Facebook. “After a violent attempt on his part to cross the border, our officials quickly moved to apprehend the bear and turn him over to the Smithers’ Northern Lights Wildlife Society for the winter.
Pictures of the black bear show him climbing on a sign in the waiting zone, approaching a door to the offices of the agency, and climbing up and looking through a border official on the other side.

Black bears are found from the northern parts of Mexico to Canada. They are the smallest and most widespread bear species in North America and are generally found in forested areas.
Usually they are suspicious of humans and avoid them when they hear them. Encounters generally occur when humans bring food to areas where bears are present. Bears will try to use these food sources and conflicts with humans may occur.
The Smithers’ Northern Lights Wildlife Society, to which the bear was brought on the Canadian border, is a sanctuary for young, injured or orphaned wildlife, established in 1982. It is located in British Columbia next to the Babine Mountains Provincial Park.
The contribution of the Canada Border Services Agency prompted social media users to link the attempted crossing to the U.S. elections, the winner of which has yet to be determined. After the initial results, with Joe Biden and President Donald Trump neck and neck, Google’s search for “move to Canada” shot up.
One user wrote about the agency’s posting: “Lol he must have watched the election when he got out while he could”.
Another user said: “Lol, he must have watched the election when he got out: “Even the wildlife is trying to defect from the US to Canada.
A third person added: “Even the animals are trying to escape from the USA. I am sure they will return once they know the election results.
Currently, there are restrictions on non-essential travel between the USA and Canada. Individuals entering Canada may do so if they are doing so for an “undesignated purpose” or if they are an immediate family member of someone in the country. They must not show symptoms of COVID-19 and must be quarantined for 14 days after arrival. These restrictions currently apply until November 21.
