The emergency services were called to the traffic circle between County Road and Rice Lane shortly before 3 p.m. to report that a woman had been found injured.
A woman fell from the overpass on Queens Drive, causing police to block the road during rush hour.
The woman, in her mid-20s, was taken to hospital after she was found on the street.
Her condition is not yet known.
The victim, presumably in her 20s, was taken to hospital for treatment shortly afterwards.
Police officers set up a series of roadblocks near the Alsop fitness center when paramedics came to the woman’s aid.
“At 2:50 p.m., officers and paramedics were called to Rice Lane to report that a woman in her 20s had fallen.
Merseyside police advised motorists to stay away from the area while emergency services were dealing with the incident.
In a statement a police spokesperson said: “We can confirm that emergency services are in Walton after a woman was found injured this afternoon, Wednesday 28 October.
“While we are dealing with the incident, a roadblock will be put in place.
“She has been taken to hospital for evaluation of her injuries.
“Please take an alternative route and thank you for your patience.”
According to the INRIX transportation authority, queues are forming around the area and the road will probably remain closed for some time.
