With her triumph at the CMT Awards, Carrie Underwood extends her record.

Carrie Underwood has another reason to celebrate: her song Hallelujah has extended her record as the most decorated artist in the history of the CMT Music Awards.

At the awards presentation, which aired from Nashville, Tennessee, the music video for the singer’s song, a duet with John Legend, was chosen video of the year.

While accepting the award, Underwood praised her devoted fans, saying, “You’re the reason we’re all here doing what we do, doing what we love (and) making music videos.”

She also expressed gratitude to Legend for sending her the song, which was featured on her album My Gift.

“Congratulations on your first CMT Award, in my opinion. She exclaimed, “Whoa!”

Though Underwood dominated part of the night – she also performed with rock band NEEDTOBREATHE – the awards program honoring the year’s finest country music videos was taken over by other female performers, some from outside of country music.

H.E.R., a Grammy-winning R&B singer, and Chris Stapleton had the best performance of the night. For a rendition of Hold On, they teamed up.

During a performance of Friendship Train with Mickey Guyton, Gladys Knight won over audience members who were not wearing masks.

Because of the outstanding performances by Knight, H.E.R., and Guyton, who was nominated for two awards and presented the CMT Equal Play Award to Linda Martell, one of country music’s pioneering black acts and the first black woman to perform solo at the Grand Ole Opry, a portion of the show felt dedicated to black female voices.

Lady A opened the performance with Carly Pearce and Lindsay Ell, while Ingrid Andress performed with JP Saxe, a pop singer-songwriter, and Miranda Lambert performed with Jack Ingram and Jon Randall.

Kane Brown and Kelsea Ballerini, who hosted the show, both performed and received prizes.

Worship You earned Brown male video of the year, and Famous Friends with Chris Young won collaborative video of the year.

The Other Girl by Ballerini and Halsey won CMT Performance of the Year at the 2020 CMT Music Awards.
