The suspect was named after the security guard who was left dead in an alleged scooter theft.

On Wednesday around 1 a.m., a silver transit car with a number of people drove into the grounds of an industrial park on Skyline Drive in Burtonwood.

A suspect was named after a gang had sentenced a security guard to death when they allegedly stole two scooters and ran him over with their van.

One man was charged with attempted murder after a 23-year-old was hit by a van and left injured.

He was taken to Warrington Hospital with severe injuries to his hand and leg and has since been released.

Cheshire police said that a 23-year-old security guard was deliberately hit by the vehicle when he tried to stop the vehicle as it drove through the gates.

Once on the premises the group got out and stole two mopeds from plastic manufacturer Plastic Omnium before attempting to flee the scene.

Now Cheshire Police have released the name of a man they had charged in connection with the incident.

The van was found and recovered a few hours later in the Belle Vale area.

A 25 year old man was later arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and theft of a vehicle. He is currently in custody and is waiting to be questioned by officials.

A police spokesman said: “Detectives today charged 25-year-old Ian Abley of Broomhill Close in Liverpool with two counts of theft, dangerous driving and failure to stop in an accident.

“He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before Warrington Magistrates Court on Friday 30 October.

In the hours following the incident, Detective Sergeant Mark Naylor of Warrington CID said: “The security guard was seriously injured when he tried to stop the van from leaving the premises and we are doing everything we can to identify those involved in the incident.

“The two mopeds have not yet been recovered, and I appeal to anyone who saw them being unloaded after the theft to contact us.

“We have done a number of investigations, and as part of our investigation I am very interested to hear from anyone who may have seen a transit vehicle behaving suspiciously in the area, or who saw an altercation at the gates.

“I would also urge anyone who has line camera footage or any other information that could help the investigation to contact us.
