Rio Ferdinand makes a Liverpool prediction and sends a summer transfer message by saying, “Without a doubt.”
Liverpool will be back in contention for the Premier League title next season, according to Rio Ferdinand, if Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez return to form.
The Reds have won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, and their first league trophy in 30 years since the Dutchman arrived at Anfield.
Many in the game regard the defender as the best in the world, despite the fact that he is presently out with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury sustained in last October’s Merseyside derby.
Gomez hasn’t played since November, when he tore a tendon in his left knee during an England training session.
Both players are set to return next season, and Ferdinand believes an additional midfielder should be added this summer.
Gini Wijnaldum has also indicated that he will leave the club when his contract expires, with Paris Saint-Germain now set to sign him.
In recent weeks, a number of midfield options have been considered, and Ferdinand believes that an extra squad player in that area is required.
“They need van Dijk and Gomez to get back in shape,” the former England player said on his YouTube show Vibe With FIVE.
“Without a doubt, if those two come back and play at the level they did before, Liverpool will be back in the mix.
“However, another midfielder will almost certainly be required to supplement that squad man.”
