WASHINGTON, D.C. — A pedestrian was killed Saturday night after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 295 in southwest Washington, according to police.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Seventh District responded to reports of a crash around 7:50 p.m. on the northbound lanes of I-295 near Exit 1 at Laboratory Road. Authorities said officers from Prince George’s County were already at the scene when D.C. police arrived.

Investigators determined that a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle and was found unconscious and not breathing upon officers’ arrival. Despite emergency response efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Officials confirmed that the driver involved in the collision remained at the location following the crash.

Police have not released the victim’s age or gender, and details surrounding the circumstances that led to the incident have not yet been made public. The investigation remains ongoing.
