James Fraughan was arrested after police seized the Baikal semi-automatic handgun on a property in Coral Drive in Bootle.

A man admitted to possessing a loaded gun at a house party.

James Fraughan admits to possessing a semi-automatic pistol and ammunition.

Later, they were charged in connection with a Baikal .380 caliber automatic pistol and a single Winchester .380 pistol.

Fraughan, 29, of Markfield Road, Bootle, and Sam Taylor, 28, of St. Alban’s Square, Bootle, were arrested later that day.

Police reported that officers were on the property at about 4:10 a.m. on Sunday, July 22, 2018, after it was reported that a man had a gun.

Fraughan was accused of possessing a prohibited firearm, a firearm without a certificate and ammunition without a certificate.

At a hearing on Friday, he admitted the possession of a firearm without certificate and ammunition without certificate. The charge of possession of a prohibited firearm was dropped by the Crown.

He denies the possession of a prohibited firearm, the same weapon without a firearms license and the possession of ammunition without a firearms license.

Taylor faces four charges related to the weapon, all of which he denied in a previous hearing.

Taylor also denies possession of the gun, although he was prohibited from doing so because he had previously served a 40-month sentence in a juvenile detention facility.

Judge Garrett Byrne denied Taylor bail on remand until that time.

Prosecutor Cheryl Mottram said a trial, which is estimated to last two days, could take place in the week beginning July 5 next year.

On Friday, Judge Stuart Driver, QC, said Fraughan would be sentenced at a time to be set at the end of Taylor’s trial and remanded him on unconditional bail.
