ITV confirms that the Coronation Street character will return, but with a new actress in the role.

Summer Spellman will return to Weatherfield to meet with Todd Grimshaw, who has made his presence known since his dramatic return earlier this month.

ITV has confirmed the return of a popular character, but with a new actress in the role.

Actress Harriet Bibby will take on the popular Corrie role.

Summer was responsible for explaining Todd’s sudden departure three years ago. Todd was originally played by 37-year-old Bruno Langley, who played the character for 16 years before he was fired by the ITV bosses.

As the adopted daughter of Billy Mayhew’s friend Drew Spellman, she was introduced to her new legal guardians Billy and Todd after Drew’s diagnosis of terminal cancer.

Summer will return from her grandmother next month, but it will be played by the new actress Harriet Bibby.

In 2017, Langley received a 12-month community order after pleading guilty to sexual assault on two women at a Manchester music venue.

Todd has returned to the famous cobblestone, Gareth Pierce has taken over the role, and now he and Summer will be reunited.

Harriet was cast in the role after original actress Matilda Freeman decided to leave Coronation Street earlier this year to explore new possibilities.

With tensions already running high between Billy and Paul over the return of Todd, Summer’s arrival is expected to complicate things as she struggles to forgive Todd for abandoning her and Billy three years ago.

said Matilda: “I would like to thank my second family, the actors, the team and the audience for supporting me during my time on the cobblestone. After three and a half beautiful years, I felt it was time for a change and I look forward to starting the next chapter with a new role.

Lincolnshire born actress Harriet was trained at Alra North and has had roles in Doctors and Brassic. She has lived in Wigan for the last four years and has recently moved to Manchester.

she said: “I am so excited to be part of the cast of Coronation Street. My family has been watching the show for years and I already feel like part of the family. Matilda wished me good luck, which was very nice! I am looking forward to bringing the cheekiness and glamour of Summer to the screen”.
