Henderson, an England footballer, believes that NHS workers are truly heroes.
After being honored for services to football and charity during the coronavirus outbreak, Jordan Henderson commended NHS employees as “genuine heroes.”
Henderson, a 30-year-old midfielder, led Liverpool to Champions League glory in 2019 and the Premier League victory in the tumultuous 2019–20 season.
Off the field, he was a driving force behind the #PlayersTogether effort, which was launched in early April last year at the height of the coronavirus pandemic, which forced the suspension of football and other sports.
Premier League captains collaborated to establish a joint donation fund, which was sent to the NHS Charities Together group for distribution to charities that support NHS personnel and patients.
I dedicate this to all the nurses, doctors, carers, porters, admin employees, cleaners, security officers, and everyone else who sacrifices their careers and lives to making the NHS the part of British life that we can justifiably be proud of.
“There are many privileges that come with playing professional football, but having a platform to promote a charitable cause such as Players Together and NHS Charities Together is as big a privilege as any,” Henderson said after receiving his MBE for services to football and charity, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“It’s critical for me to emphasize that, though the honor has been bestowed upon me personally, the credit must be shared among a much broader number of individuals, and I accept this in the knowledge that I was a member of something unique rather than the cause of it.
“The other Premier League captains were the driving force behind the scenes, and the rest of the players, including my own Liverpool teammates, were a driving force behind the scenes.
“A large number of football enthusiasts from all throughout the country donated generously as well. The NHS workers, on the other hand, are true heroes; they put themselves in harm’s path to serve and protect us.
“As a result, I dedicate this to all the nurses, physicians, caretakers, porters, admin employees, cleaners, security officers, and everyone else that dedicates their profession and life to this cause. (This is a brief piece.)
