The Invictus Games will be held in Germany for the first time in 2023, according to the Duke of Sussex, who founded them.
In a brief Instagram post, Harry announced Dusseldorf as the host city for the 2023 edition of the worldwide sporting championship for wounded, injured, and sick servicemen and women.
“It’s time to spread the news,” Harry writes to his Instagram followers on the invictusgames2023 account. “Germany is about to grow significantly.”
After after, the video changes to a man sprinting through the streets of Dusseldorf before entering a stadium, where the dates September 9-16 flash on the screen.
After a two-year pause due to the coronavirus outbreak, the Invictus Games will return to The Hague, Netherlands, from April 16-22 next year, before traveling to Germany the following year.
During the Warrior Games in Colorado in 2013, Harry was inspired to launch the global event after seeing how injured American military men thrived on the challenge of participating in competitive sports that aided their recovery.
The first games were held in London’s Olympic Park in 2014, with Orlando in 2016, Toronto in 2017, and Sydney in 2018.
