Edward describes the schism between Harry and Meghan and the rest of the royal family as “extremely sad.”

According to the Earl of Wessex, the schism between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the rest of the royal family has been “tough for everyone.”

Edward said all senior royals had endured “excessive” media intrusion over the years, adding, “We’ve all coped with it in slightly different ways.” He was speaking on what would have been his father, the Duke of Edinburgh’s 100th birthday.

When asked by CNN about the “undeniably existent family schism,” the earl laughed and answered, “Are you euphemistically talking to Harry and Meghan?”

In our lives, we’ve all experienced undue intrusion and attention. We’ve all coped with it in our own unique ways.

He called the couple’s decision to stand down as senior royals “extremely painful,” adding, “We’ve all been there before.”

“It’s quite sad,” he added, “but strangely, we’ve all been there before – we’ve all had undue intrusion and attention in our lives.”

“We’ve all coped with it in slightly different ways, and we wish them the best of luck,” says the group.

“It’s a difficult choice.”

“It’s good news regarding the kid, that’s terrific,” Edward continued. I hope they enjoy themselves, and it’s just… Aren’t families, after all, just families?”

When asked how his mother, the Queen, is coping with the breakup on top of losing her husband, the earl answered, “It’s painful for everyone, but that’s what families are for.”

I try to keep out of it as much as possible. It’s far and away the safest place to be.

Edward was asked how he is dealing with the royal schism in a separate interview with the BBC.

He replied: “I stay well out of it. It’s far and away the safest place to be.”

Questioned whether he felt “any sadness” about how the situation had played out, he responded: “Of course. There are all sorts of issues and circumstances there, but we’ve all been through there.

“We’ve all had that same spotlight shone on our lives, we’ve all been subjected to massive intrusion and all the rest of it, and we all deal with. (This is a brief piece.)
