After migrants were ‘caught up in French seas,’ the Home Office launched an investigation.
The UK Border Force reportedly intercepted migrants attempting to cross the English Channel in French waters and transported them to Dover, according to the Home Office.
According to the Daily Mail, the action was planned by senior crew members of the HMC Valiant and the French patrol ship Athos last Saturday.
Priti Patel, the Home Secretary, has promised to make the perilous crossing of the English Channel “unviable,” but crossings have increased.
“We are quickly investigating the facts surrounding this incident,” a spokesperson for the Home Office said.
It comes after over 600 migrants were apprehended trying to cross the English Channel in three days this week.
On Friday, the French authorities dealt with eight incidents involving 130 individuals, while the UK dealt with four vessels involving 83 individuals, according to the Home Office.
On Thursday, Border Force personnel stopped 201 persons in eight separate situations.
On Wednesday and Thursday, French authorities stopped nine crossings, stopping 171 people from reaching the United Kingdom.
This brings the total number of people attempting the trip to 585 in just three days.
In comparison to the same period in 2020, the number of persons crossing the 21-mile length of water has nearly doubled in 2021, with more than 3,100 having reached the English shoreline by the end of May.
Protesters blocked access to vital trade ports in Dover last weekend during anti-immigration demonstrations.
“This Government’s strategy to fighting Channel crossings isn’t working and is doomed to fail,” said Enver Solomon, chief executive of the Refugee Council.
“The reality is that ordinary individuals are forced to take exceptional measures to seek refuge in another country when fleeing conflict, terror, and persecution.
“Rather than focusing entirely on police to halt the crossings, the government should expand safe routes so that people do not have to risk their lives on risky voyages at the mercy of criminals and people smugglers.
“By expanding the resettlement program, granting humanitarian visas, and overhauling the restricted immigration system, we can create safe and regular paths to the United Kingdom. (This is a brief piece.)
