If Prison Break Season 6 is made in the future, it will be without the former main character Michael Scofield (played by Wentworth Miller). In an Instagram post about homophobic comments he received, the 48-year-old actor also wrote: “In a related note… I am out. From PB. Officially.
“Not out of the static of social media (although this has brought the issue to the forefront). I just don’t want to play honest characters. Their stories are told (and have been told).
“So. No more Michael. If you were a fan of the series, hoping for more seasons… I understand that this is disappointing. I’m sorry.”
The actor was released in 2013, between the end of the first season of Prison Break in 2009 and its revival in 2017. Among the gay roles he has played since then is Leo Snart / Captain Cold, the superhero character he played in The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow.
Among those who responded to Miller’s new message was Dominic Purcell, who plays his brother Lincoln Burrows in the Fox drama. The actor wrote: “It was funny, buddy. What a ride that was. Fully support and understand your argumentation. I am glad you made this decision for your health and truth. Let the mail come… I love you, brother.”
Meanwhile, Dr. Sara Tancredi actress Sarah Wayne Callies wrote her own Instagram post in honor of her former co-star. She wrote: “Yesterday @wentworthmiller announced that he is finished playing Michael Scofield because he wants to concentrate on playing gay characters as a gay man.
“[W]it is grateful for all the work we have done together & with deep love I express my support for this choice.
“We stand with – and among ourselves – our friends and family in the LGBTQ+ community and support their rights and their artistic work with all our might. Always”.
Prison Break Season 6 is scheduled to be in development in 2018, following the success of the Fox revival. However, the following year, Fox Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier said about the future of the show: “At the moment there is no plan to revive Prison Break or any of the other franchises, but when the creators come up with a story they think is the right time to tell, we are so ready to listen, because there are some franchises that I am so proud of and so lucky to have in our stable.
Prison Break is now running on Hulu….
