Jean Currivan Trebek, the wife of the late Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek, posted on Instagram for the first time since her husband’s death. Trebek died of pancreatic cancer on Sunday. He was 80 years old. Currivan shared an intimate picture of her and her Trebek from their wedding when he put the wedding ring on her ring finger.
“My family and I sincerely thank you all for your compassionate messages and generosity. Your comments have truly touched our hearts. Thank you very, very much,” she wrote and added: “Many blessings to all, Jean Trebek.
Earlier in July, Currivan had posted guide posts on her blog saying she was happy to be with Trebek during his fight against pancreatic cancer. She said that she noticed something different about Trebek during a vacation in Israel in December 2018.
“It felt like the ground was falling out of my world,” she said at the time. “Alex has been everything to me. I met him when I was 21, a challenging time in my life. His friendship – we were friends for a long time before we became a couple – changed my life.
Currivan and Trebek met through a friend in 1988. Despite the age difference of 24 years, they got along well at an early age. Two years later they were married. The couple has a son, Matthew, and a daughter, Emily.

Currivan told Survivor Net in November 2019 about how her sound healing practice and her work as a religious scholar helped her stay positive during her husband’s diagnosis and struggle.
“It comes from a place of love, because I want to uplift him… and if I keep myself going and enjoy my life, I can actually share that with him. He can look at me and feel that ‘life is beautiful, my wife is doing something good’,” she said.
It’s safe to say that Trebek was more than grateful for everything Currivan did for him during his fight against pancreatic cancer. “It has kept me alive,” Trebek told people in 2019. “If it wasn’t for Jean, I would have stayed out of it a long time ago.”
In the ABC special What is Jeopardy! he also spoke about the support of his wife. “It is always difficult for the carers, because she has to deal with the fact that she has to worry about my well-being, and also with the fact that she has to deal with – I am not always the most pleasant person when I have severe pain or depression, and she has to be careless around me”, Trebek confessed.
