The competition heats up on Monday evening at The Voice with the first Battle Round of the season. Now that the blind tests have been passed, each coach must decide which of his team members will continue.
Coaches Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton will choose two or more of their team members to fight for safety… and only one will stay on for a week. Each pair and song will be selected by The Voice coaches before the show. It seems that the songs will be chosen with the individual singers in mind, and are intended to give them the opportunity to showcase their vocal abilities to the fullest.
A quick look from The Voice shows some of the team pairings and song selections. Taryn Papa will be challenging the mother-daughter trio Worth the Wait this week.
Papa and Worth the Wait are both part of Shelton’s team, and there is a special reason for this. Shelton used the last free place on his team to welcome Worth the Wait to his team and they have already impressed the crowd. Dad, on the other hand, has a unique personal connection with Shelton. Shelton owns a bar called Ole Red in Nashville, and that’s where Daddy sings the most. She has been performing on Shelton’s own stage for over a year, which makes it even more special for the audience to see her perform on Shelton’s team.
It is hard to predict which performance will continue. Although there is certainly something heartwarming about the mother-daughter trio, Dad seems to have what it takes to be a country star.
To put their skills to the test, Shelton chooses the song “Little White Church” by the country band Little Big Town. The teaser for Monday’s episode shows Shelton that harmonies will be welcome in the performance.
Other songs to be heard on the Battle Stage this week include “Hard Place” by H.E.R., featuring Legend Team members Olivia Reyes and Tamara Jade fighting for safety; “Nobody Wants to Be Lonely” by Ricky Martin and Christina Aguilera for Clarkson Team members Eli Zamora and Madeline Consoer; and “If The World Was Ending” by Sam Smith, performed by Stefani’s team members Lauren Frihauf and Payge Turner.
After the fighting rounds, The Voice will enter the knockout phase of the competition. This allows solo performances of the artist’s choice. All of this leads to The Voice’s live performances, where the real question is who will be the next winner of the competition’s vocal show.
The Voice will air on Monday and Tuesday at 20:00 ET on NBC….
