According to Johns Hopkins University reports, the US reported more than 71,000 coronavirus cases on Thursday, marking the nation’s single highest daily case count since late July.
On Thursday, virus-related deaths also reached 856, the data showed.
On July 16, with more than 77,300 infections and 943 deaths, the country reported the highest daily cases of all time. On July 29, the count last exceeded the 71,000 mark, with almost 1,500 daily fatalities.
The Covid Monitoring Project said that over 41,000 people were hospitalized across the world, the highest level since late August, while the majority of US states are experiencing a pandemic surge.
With more than 8.4 million cases and more than 223,000 deaths, the US is the worst affected country by the virus. Although approximately 3.3 million people have recovered from the disease, almost 129 million tests have been done so far.
The worst-affected states are now California, Texas and Florida.
