Trumpf says that Lady Gaga, who fights for Biden, is “more proof” that VP would ban fracking.

Vice President Joe Biden has claimed that he would not ban fracking if elected president, but just one day before the 2020 elections his Republican rival President Donald Trump is hinting the opposite. Trump claims that Biden intends to ban fracking – and the fact that Biden has hired Lady Gaga for his upcoming campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Monday only proves it more than that.

“We just learned that sleepy Joe Biden is campaigning in Pennsylvania with Lady Gaga, a proud member of ‘Artists Against Fracking’. This is further proof that he would ban fracking and drive up your energy prices…” Trump wrote in the early hours of Monday morning.

The president added: “…As I said in the debate – ‘Will you remember that Texas Pennsylvania? Ohio? New Mexico?’ I will always protect American energy and American jobs! Get out and vote #MAGA!”

Biden has stated that he would ban fracking on federal state, rather than a complete ban on this practice. While he previously claimed in an interview in 2019 that in answering a question about the coal and fracking industry he would “ensure that it is abolished,” his written campaign plan on climate change and environmental protection does not propose a complete end to new or current fracking, but rather “a ban on new oil and gas permits on public land and in public waters.

Trump’s tweet is just the latest blow his campaign has dealt to Gaga, who on Sunday was called an anti-fracking activist by Trump’s re-election communications manager, Tim Murtaugh.

“Nothing exposes Biden’s contempt for the forgotten working men and women of the PA more than a campaign with anti-fracking activist Lady Gaga. This desperate effort to generate enthusiasm is really a sharp stick in the eye for 600,000 Pennsylvanians working in the fracking industry,” Murtaugh wrote on Twitter.

Gaga replied, “HEY TIM HEY @realDonaldTrump SO HAPPY IM GLAD TO BE LIVING RENT FREE in your HEAD. #BidenHarris.”

Gaga is a member of the organization Artists Against Fracking, which was founded in 2012 by Yoko Ono and Sean Lennon-Ono. The coalition was formed in an effort to prevent New York Governor Andrew Cuomo from allowing fracking – the abbreviated term for hydraulic fracturing – in New York State. Nearly 200 other artists, musicians and filmmakers are members of the initiative, including Mark Ruffalo, Alec Baldwin and Paul McCartney, to name a few.

Fracking is a process in which natural gas is extracted from the earth’s crust by drilling thousands of meters into the ground and releasing a cocktail of water and chemicals. The solution breaks up horizontal layers of shale rock, allowing oil and gas to escape.
