Savannah Guthrie Admits She Was “Nervous” Filling In As “Jeopardy!” Savannah Guthrie Admits She Was “Nervous” Filling In As “Jeopardy!” Host a Guests
Savannah Guthrie will be seen entering into a new domain next week when she joins Jeopardy! as a guest host.
The Today show anchor revealed she was “nervous” about taking over the general knowledge quiz program from the late Alex Trebek, as executives look for a permanent replacement.
“I was so worried because I really just wanted to show how much respect I have for Jeopardy!” Guthrie, whose pre-recorded two-week stint as host of Jeopardy! begins on June 14, told People: “I was so worried because I really just wanted to show how much love I have for Jeopardy! For a reason, Alex is a legend and an icon.
“He’s the maestro,” says the narrator. And I’m familiar with those Jeopardy! contestants! Fans can be finicky, but I must add, I’m just a stand-in, so don’t worry… It was fantastic. I had a great time, but I have to go to work.”
The TV star then joked that her tenure as a guest host will now make her a more intimidating appearance at gatherings.
She explained, “I was a poor student until much later in life, so there’s just so much I don’t know in general.” “However, what I realized was how intelligent everyone on Jeopardy! is, particularly the contestants and authors.”
“However, I worked extremely hard in class. I read everything ahead of time and I hope some of those facts stay in my head so I can impress people at cocktail parties.”
Guthrie follows a number of guest hosts, including actor Mayim Bialik, Jeopardy! legend Ken Jennings, NFL athlete Aaron Rodgers, and veteran TV journalists Anderson Cooper, Katie Couric, and Bill Whitaker.
And while Buzzy Cohen, Sanjay Gupta, George Stephanopoulos, Robin Roberts, LeVar Burton, David Faber, and Joe Buck are among those who have also signed up, Guthrie believes replacing Trebek is no minor feat.
“I think it’s such big shoes to fill,” she said. “Alex was not only legendary in how he did it, he was legendary in how he conducted himself off-air and the family that he created. [He was] such a revered figure.
“So, stepping into Alex’s shoes won’t be easy, but I think they’ve got some really good candidates. I’m not going to name names.”
Jeopardy! executive producer and showrunner Mike Richards confirmed last month that a decision on the new host will be made before the next season of the. This is a brief summary.
